The Air Venture Training Programs

Introductory training session:
  • Includes a flight in a tandem paramotor trike with an experienced  instructor. This session costs RM 150 and takes a few hours normally in the afternoon. Here we actually commence the flight training program by teaching the basics of forward and reverse launch techniques (depending on wind conditions). If it is then decided continue with the full training program, this session is free. During the flight, you will be able to try steering the paramotor in the sky and feel exactly what it is like to fly for yourself before committing to a full training course.
PPG1 course (solo, foot launch) includes:trike2
  • Around 25 hours of training plus additional solo flights once training is complete. (normally over 5 days at your own schedule)
  • In-flight tandem paramotor trike training including:
    • Steering techniques
    • Oscillation control
    • Landing approach
    • Circuit flight training
    • Emergency landing procedures
    • Confidence building flights
  • On ground flight simulation session
    • Simulator session while paramotor is suspended as in flight
    • This is the theory session where we cover all the aspects of the 1st flight from take-off to pushing into the seat to landing
    • Collapse recovery
    • Use of communication equipment
  • Motor and equipment familiarization session
    • Setting up the motor
    • Pre-flight checks

    • Additional solo flights to build confidence
  • License check
    • Carried out after 10-20 hours of solo flights
  • Full syllabus available upon request
  • Students are advised to have the objective of achieving a PPG1 license provided by the Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation (MSAF).

Learn to fly a Paramotor Trike

Paramotor trikes are quickly becoming a common alternative to foot launch as no longer is it required to "wear" the paramotor on the back like a back pack.

This saves a lot of effort and exertion when taking off and the weight of the paramtor and flight equipment is not so important anymore. Trikes are fun to fly as takeoff and landing techniques in some ways feel more like flying a fixed wing aircraft. Trikes are also a great way to share your flying experiences with friends as the tandem trike is a natural progression for the paramotor pilot.

Trikes are also a great way for more senior pilots wishing to enjoy the magic of flight without having to carry the paramotor (sometimes requires some effort). Also pilots who may have issues with knees or ankles or other disabilities that want to fly paramotor may do so with safety and ease. Trikes also make it far easier to carry more gear such as camera equipment or extra gasoline for long distance flights. Trikes are just plain all-out fun to fly

For those who don't want to learn to fly while wearing a motor on their back may now consider going straight to learning to fly a trike!

Air Venture pioneered the use of the paramotor trike in Malaysia for both flying and training. The trike is a central and essential element of all flight training courses conducted by Air Venture. We are also the most experienced trike pilots - in 2011 alone, we flew around 860 tandem flights so your safety is assured! We fly with the Nirvana Cruise Tandem Trike and the Ozone Magnum II wing - the latest and possibly the best tandem wing in the industry. We also use state of the art in-flight communications equipment with Icaro helmets and Microavionics muffs with active noise suppression so a calm and relaxed discussion is possible between pilot and student whilst in flight.

 Trike course (solo trike) includes:trike00

  •  Tandem in-flight training
    • Take off technique with trike
    • Landing approach training
    • Emergency procedures
    • Emergency landing technique - upwind and downwind landings
  • Trike safety training
    • Correct setup of the trike and wing
    • Pre-flight checks
    • Avoiding trike roll-overs
    • Techniques to avoid "parablending" the wing in prop
    • Landing rollout techniques
    • Radio controlled 1st trike solo flights

Why learn to fly a Motorized Paraglider?

The best reason to fly a motorized Paragliding is simply good fun. If ever you have had dreams of flight where you run, flap the arms and take off… well, this is about as close to those dreams as you can get!

  • Flying a motorized paraglider is easy, rewarding and, with the proper training and equipment, very safe.
  • Motorized paragliding offers flying like no other type of aircraft in that it is possible to fly high and far or low and slow.
  • Motorized paragliding is undoubtedly the least expensive form of powered flight. The equipment is most certainly less expensive than most other powered aircraft and a day in the sky will only cost a few dollars in fuel bills.
  • Motorized paragliders are portable and easily transported to any location providing an infinite variety of flying locations. With careful pre-trip preparation and packing, motorized paragliders can often be checked in on commercial flights thereby increasing the range of flying opportunities to almost anywhere on the planet.
  • For many it is the challenge of flying an aircraft as pilot in command.
  • For others it is the challenge of learning to fly an aircraft which requires a higher level of environmental awareness and physical skills than flying normal fixed wing aircraft.
  • Paragliding also offers one of the best platforms for aerial photography because of the virtually unrestricted field of view from the harness in addition to the ability to fly in low and slow to capture excellent stills or video.
  • Other exciting aspects of motorized paragliding include competitions, cross country flights and social flying events!

Where to fly a paramotor?

Paramotors can be flown in many areas and in most cases up to 500 feet without requiring permission from Air Traffic Control. Areas to be avoided are built up areas, military areas, airports and other sensitive areas. It is always recommended to check local rules and regulations before setting up your equipment.

Why Learn with Air Venture?

With over ten years of experience, our instructors will lead you through a natural progression of skills training you to be a safe, accomplished pilot. Most schools only teach the bare minimum to get a student airborne. While this may get a person flying, it is not a great foundation to be a good and safe pilot - also it may be dangerous and lead to excessive equipment breakages.

At Air Venture, we specialize in going way beyond what is required just to take off and land only. At Air Venture:

Francis_kitingfolding_wing

  • We teach both forward and reverse launch techniques - highly important for learning wing control and safe takeoff
  • We use a trike for training so flying can be taught both on the ground and in the air (as it should be!)
  • We use on ground simulation teaching to prepare people fully for the forst flight
  • Emphasis on safety throughout training course

Powered Paragliding in Malaysia requires a license issued by the Malaysian Sports Aviation Federation
Additionally, this sport requires a little more training than regular free-flying paragliding. After all, it is flying a paraglider with the addition of an engine which changes the launch and flight characteristics.
Since a pilot will be launching and landing with an additional 25kgs of weight, it is extremely important that the pilot be competent in evaluating the conditions and has the appropriate skills.
A Powered Paragliding course takes about 15-20 hours depending on individual ability and takes place over several weekends. The first solo flights are controlled by two-way radio so the instructor can tell the student exactly what to do.
Safety
With the proper training and care, motorized paragliding is a very safe sport. Basically it comes down to common sense and choosing the correct flying location and meteorological conditions. Powered paragliding is actually the safest form of paragliding for two reasons:
1Firstly, it is easier to choose the conditions for flying as you are not dependant on sometimes unpredictable wind conditions high in mountains. Flying normally takes place in open areas away from obstructions that can cause turbulent air. Usually, in Malaysia, the most enjoyable and stable flying conditions occur in the morning and evening when it would not be possible to free-fly without a motor.
2Secondly, power provides more options when choosing landing sites or avoiding obstacles. If a pilot is not happy with the landing approach by either being to short or possibly overshooting the landing area, then all that is required is to power on to go around and try again.
Modern equipment and particularly wing technology has evolved a great deal in recent years. Wings are far more forgiving and predictable in behavior. Wing designs are often tested to around 12 times their recommended load limits before being sold to customers.
Each line to the wing is made of Kevlar and is capable of supporting around 200kgs. From this, it is easy to see the safety margins when looking at the overall wing which has around 20-30 lines altogether connecting the wing to the risers.
